About Us
The Iowa Midwives Association is now a 501(c)(4) organization offering advocacy for community-based midwives throughout the state of Iowa. IMA offers professional development for members working in the birth field, as well as education, resources, and events for the public. We support the Midwives Model of Care, which is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life processes. We promote the Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) credential, as established by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM), as the preferred credential for [non-nurse/out of hospital] midwives. We strive to provide empowering birth experiences for women and families while preserving the tradition of midwifery care in Iowa.
